The overall philosophy of several activities in
GreenNet-Europe is to develop sophisticated and robust methods, analyses tools, results, recommendations and action plans tailor-made to
several important target groups in the field of RES-Electricity grid and market integration under a variety of different
constraints (e.g. technical, economical, legal, societal) and energy policy settings.
The portfolio of different activities in GreenNet-Europe is based on the following four major cornerstones: modelling, case study
analyses, policy recommendations and dissemination.
The major product of the modelling track is the simulation software tool
GreenNet-Europe,
modelling dynamic time paths of least cost RES-Electricity grid and market integration in the different European countries up to the year
2020 for a variety of different parameter settings, RES-Electricity support and grid regulation policies and other regulatory constraints.
In this context, an important module is the comprehensive data base on country-specific empirical data on RES-Electricity potentials and
cost as well as grid-related (grid connection, grid reinforcement) and system-related cost (system balancing, adequacy and storage).
Empirical case study analyses on the economics of existing RES-Electricity projects in different European countries and electricity system
configurations (UCTE-, Nordel- and UK-region) are another important cornerstone of the activities conducted in
GreenNet-Europe.
Moreover, case study analyses on system stability in electricity systems with increasing shares of intermittent wind generation are conducted.
The synthesis of results and the derivation of best-practise criteria in several of these case study analyses are important inputs for the policy
recommendation track.
Based on the synthesis of results of the modelling activities, case study analyses and stakeholder consultation activities, furthermore,
tailor-made policy recommendations and action plans for several key decision makers, stakeholders and market actors in the field of RES-Electricity
grid and market integration are derived.
Finally, comprehensive dissemination and networking activities are conducted utilizing several well-known dissemination channels and media as well
as further events like expert discussion platforms, training workshops and summer schools are organised in order to establish a common understanding
on sustainable policies favouring "green" European electricity grids.
